There’s no doubt that a lot of people who attend our martial arts classes are coming alone. After all, not everyone lives with someone else, and even if they do the chances that they’ll be interested in the same hobbies and sports as other people in their household aren’t very high.

But some people do stop by in groups of two, three, or more. Most often this happens with young siblings as their parents bring them for kids’ martial arts classes. Sometimes it’s a husband and wife team, and again other times matches have been made between people who meet at the class and keep coming back together.

There are many advantages of working out together in a Muay Thai or kickboxing class. Let’s take a look at why you might want to start coming with your spouse, child, or even mother!

You Can Help Each Other Out

Siblings can be some of our strongest contenders in our kids’ martial arts lessons. Why? Because they’re practicing more than anyone else! Siblings have twice the chance of remembering how to perform a certain Jiu Jitsu move because they were both there to learn it at the same time. They’re also able to help each other out if they’re practicing at home (remember to move the coffee table first!). And if they are sparring at home, the natural competition between siblings means that they’re always trying to one-up each other!

The same can be true for spouses, for those who are dating, or for buddies who hang out together. As long as you have someone in the class who can remind you of how a certain martial arts move is performed, you’re more likely to come back and be better the next week.

You’re Doing Something Together

There’s a reason that family counselors will suggest that families try to sit down and eat together as often as possible. Spending time together is bonding time. When you have common interest you always have something to talk about; some families bond over football, others over movies. Wouldn’t it be great if you could spend some more time with loved ones in a martial arts class?

Do You Spend Too Much Time Watching TV?

Most of us spend way too much time on the couch. We might be with our family, but we’re certainly not interacting with them. All we’re doing is sitting there watching each other not exercise! That’s where martial arts classes come in. At IMA everyone will be moving, stretching, and exercising the mind and body while spending time with loved ones. If you’re looking for a great exercise program for the entire family, our martial arts school is a great option. You’ll all learn some great self-defense as well! (Because of the age, height, and weight differences in your family, martial arts classes aren’t always the best option for families with younger children. Contact us and we can let you know more about our kids’ martial arts programs.)
